Butterfly Release

We released our Painted Lady butterflies into the wild this week.  Lollipop, Dotty, Elmo, Flower, Pretty, Spiderman, Rose and Zoomer stayed around the playground for a while to say "Thank You" and "Goodbye" - then they took to the skies!

The children have thoroughly enjoyed this project, watching our tiny caterpillars grow and transform.  Of the ten caterpillars ordered from Insect Lore, we ended up with eight lovely butterflies.

A day at the park

This week, we had our first Summer Field Trip to the park for Story Time. This is a favorite for our group each year! After stories, songs and a craft with Miss Kathy, we play for a while and then eat our picnic lunch.

We had a special treat this week - the children were given suckers at the post office when we took our pen pal letters to be mailed.  Everyone had a great time, and were ready to cool down and rest by the time we headed back.  Looking forward to doing it again next week!  :)

Everything grows...

There are reminders all around that change is the nature of life: our caterpillars have transformed into butterflies, the spring babies have grown nearly ready to be weaned and our chicks have turned into lovely little ladies.

The butterfly release is planned for Thursday.  Five of the seven have been named by the children: Dotty, Pretty, Elmo, Flower and Spiderman.  :)

Mother's Day and Provider Appreciation Day...

"The moment a child is born, the mother is also born.  She never existed before.  The woman existed, but the mother, never.  A mother is something absolutely new."  ~Rajneesh

We worked all week on the special project for our mommies, and they turned out beautiful!

Our Annual "Silly Day!"

"A laugh is a smile that bursts." ~Mary H. Waldrip

We sang silly songs, read funny books and played "tricks" on each other all day long!

I made cocoa-cereal treats in a loaf pan so they had "meatloaf" and "fried eggs" (yogurt and peach halves) for breakfast, breakfast foods for lunch (french toast, sausage and fruit), and along with snack, jello (apple juice and gelatin) in cups with straws to look like juice.

When the kids went to lay down for Rest Time, all their cots were in different places... that really threw them for a loop!

Their favorite part each year seems to be the gigantic pen at the sign-in sheet... they love to watch the parents react to our "trick" :)

Potential

“What do we teach our children? …
We should say to each of them:
Do you know what you are?
You are a marvel. You are unique …
You may become a Shakespeare, a Michelangelo, a Beethoven.
You have the capacity for anything.”
-Pablo Casals
