Behavior Reward Field Trip

We recently began a new reward system, this one focusing on working together as a group toward a shared goal. Each time the children used good manners, showed kindness, worked as a team, or were helpful, they earned a pompom to put in our "Good Things Jar"

The children were extremely ambitious, and filled the jar quickly. For their first reward, they chose a trip to the local children's museum. We took our field trip today and had great fun!

January Update

 photo 012.jpg

January brought our first decent accumulation of snow for this winter, which was promptly transformed into a snowman, snow ice cream, a snow block wall, and a multitude of snowballs.

Show-and-Tell days have been one highlight of our weeks lately.  The children have shown a real interest in addressing their friends during group time, and diligently search at home for items which begin with our letter of the week.

One of the older kids has enjoyed being our Circle Time assistant, especially the task of writing the names of our friends on a whiteboard. We use this display when we sing our 'name song' and point to the letters in each name.

Building Letters

 photo 040.jpg
THANK YOU to all of the families who have ordered from Scholastic Book Clubs in these past few months! We have used our accrued Bonus Points to purchase a letter construction set.
This has been a fantastic addition to our group activities.

The set is from Learning Resources and can also be found on Amazon.

Sensory Tubs

Our sensory tubs can get a little messy, but we enjoy the experiences so much!

We are currently exploring winter-inspired substances:

  • Homemade Cloud Dough (flour, oil)
  • Sparkly Oobleck (cornstarch, water, glitter)
  • Peppermint Rainbow Rice
  • Flour
  • Snow Dough (baking soda, hair conditioner)

along with a tried-and-true favorite,
  • Kinetic Sand

The recent addition of penguins has been happily received. The penguins waddle, slip, and slide through powdery snow and over mounds of shimmery oobleck.

Theme: Mixing Colors

 photo 049.jpg
This week was full of fun as we experimented with mixing colors.  We created colorful snacks (a hands-on favorite!) and learned all about the color wheel through engaging activities.

Our favorite books this week were the wonderfully interactive "Mix It Up!"
and the classic "Mouse Paint"

"Do you want to EAT a snowman...?"

At breakfast this morning, our group was singing, "Do you want to EAT a snowman...?"

Later today, we played 'Minute To Win It' games.  The favorite by far was Snowman Stack Up:
